I hate red sauce.
Yes, it’s THAT serious. For almost two decades now, I’ve been ordering ‘white’ sauce on my pizza. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll tear up Costco pizza at any given moment, red sauce be damned. But if I have my choice, I’m ALWAYS going with white sauce.
Since I bought pre-made Trader Joe’s dough, I decided I wanted to make my own sauce. Because there really isn’t a good pre-made white sauce. They expect you to buy Alfredo if you do want anything other than red pizza sauce.
Of course, I ran to Pinterest to find a solution. I found this pin, which was exactly what I needed. This isn’t my recipe, but I’m resharing to make it easy on you. White Garlic Pizza Sauce
- 2 tbsp butter
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 3 tbsp all purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp oregano
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
- Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Add garlic, cooking for 30 seconds before whisking in flour, pepper, salt, and oregano. Whisk to combine well.
- Slowly add milk, whisking until well combined.
- Continue whisking occasionally until desired thickness is reached.
- Remove from heat, stir in cheese until smooth.
- Use immediately or cover and chill until ready to use.
So, I definitely didn’t make everything from scratch, but this was a great option for dinner. I had TJ’s dough, made the white sauce, bought pepperoni (cause I can’t just make meat), and shredded the mozzarella. Pop in the oven on the Pampered Chef pizza stone and bake for ten minutes.
During this quarantine time, I’m finding it more fun to try new recipes. I’ve challenged myself to make at least one new recipe per week. Usually, it is more than that, but that’s the minimum goal I’ve set.
Another side note from all this too, is that I’ve bought (or replaced) all the kitchen essentials I’ve debated buying over the years. Small things, but after making this pizza I realized I really need a roller pin. As you can see, there was a struggle to get a perfect circle shaped pizza. Honestly, it doesn’t bug me to have a funny shaped pizza. The overall process to roll it out was annoying, so the new roller pin will make the next one so much easier.
