    Musings: Loving Me is Hard

And I credit my parents for that. AND I mean that in the most thoughtful way possible. Recently, I was having a convo with a friend, when they pointed out a few things. And not in a malicious way, I was very interested in their assessment of me, in regards to relationships. They said, “You need a weak man. And you are SOOO damn bull-headed.” They also went on to share that I act as if I was previously in a toxic and/or abusive relationship. To be followed with I overthink too much. Is this critical, yes. Was I upset, no? I was intent to understand their assessment because, at…

City Girl Hikes [SOLO]: Stevens Trail – Colfax, CA

It just took a pandemic for me to take a solo hike. To be fair, I’d set this goal for 2020. And the pandemic lent itself easily to accomplish this goal. On a whim, about two days before I hiked, I kinda committed to myself to do the hike. My friend, Haley, is an experienced hiker so I asked her, for the fifteenth time, for a recommendation on where I should hike. She sent me, for probably the fifth time, the Stevens Trail link via AllTrails. This hike was ideal because it is less than an hour away from my house, which was one of my ultimate criteria. Probably, actually…

    Musings: Tampons, Thanks Pandemic

It’s about DAMN time!! I’ve been so heated about this topic for a long time. Women DESERVE to use pre-tax, health funds to buy stuff for their periods. I deserve it. All women deserve it! Thanks to COVID-19, we can now use our HSA accounts to buy tampons (or pads if you’re a psycho)! Also, you can retroactively reimburse yourself for any purchases made since January 1, 2020. I am way too excited for this! Bless the saint who snuck this into the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act! You may think you are prepared for thinking about health insurance when you enter the workforce. But then they…

Diary of a Non-Cook: I Don’t Eat Red Pizza Sauce

I hate red sauce. Yes, it’s THAT serious. For almost two decades now, I’ve been ordering ‘white’ sauce on my pizza. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll tear up Costco pizza at any given moment, red sauce be damned. But if I have my choice, I’m ALWAYS going with white sauce. Since I bought pre-made Trader Joe’s dough, I decided I wanted to make my own sauce. Because there really isn’t a good pre-made white sauce. They expect you to buy Alfredo if you do want anything other than red pizza sauce. Of course, I ran to Pinterest to find a solution. I found this pin, which was exactly what I…

    Musings: Uncertain Times

The world decided to send us all a chill pill… Coronavirus. COVID-19. The “Chinese Virus” as our idiotic (being nice with this verb) President has termed it through his tweets. This pandemic has put us ALL in uncharted waters with less than ideal tools and resources to navigate through it. But we are resilient. By we, I mean us, humans. What I hope to see through all of this is a higher level of kindness, compassion, and understanding. It will take time to get there, but as we become more uncertain and stressed, we learn more about ourselves and how we can adapt to change and manage our feelings and…

    Musings: Two Months In

Road Warrior status activated! It’s been exactly TWO months since I started my new role. And I’m happy to report, I’m still loving it. I get that question a lot these days. How’s the new job? Do you love to travel? And yes, for the most part. I don’t exactly love sitting on a flight for hours on end, but on either side of a flight I know I’m most going somewhere new or home. Either make me happy. I do take my time at home a lot more seriously these days. Some weekends and days home feel so extremely busy with trying to do household chores, run errands, and…

    Musings: Courage in Action

Remember when I set my intention? Yeah, well I wasn’t fully transparent about why I set it as courage. A LOT of things were happening at the end of 2019 and, well of course when it comes to your career you have to be more discreet. Although everyone who needed to know knew, it wasn’t something I wanted to share until it did or did not happen. But phew, IT happened! I have never fought so hard for a job. However, with this experience, I had one mindset that completely helped, what will be meant for you. Even if it doesn’t feel like it at the moment, it will be…

Musings: The Elusive Black Badge Is MINE!

I can’t believe I’ve been Yelping longer than TEN years! Remember last year when I was talking about earning the elusive black badge? I’ve been impatiently waiting since January 1 for the coveted email saying I was a Yelp Elite for 2020. I waited and waited. I text a good friend about it. My co-worker and I talked about it. He even went as far as emailing our Community Manager (CM) to ask when the announcement would be made. We did learn our CM was on vacation until January 6, so I figured we wouldn’t hear until after that. Most of January 6 came and went, so I had given…

    Musings: 2020 Intention Set

No new year, new me BS! But you already know that. Never been one for resolutions, but I am one for goals. I don’t share or set them very often either. But I think setting an intention for 2020 is something I could get behind. I like the idea of having a word that I can strive for, think about, and reflect on for the entire year. I have never done this before, so we shall see how it goes. I think an intention is a hybrid of a goal and an aspiration. Setting an intention activates my ability to be receptive, manifest, and put out what I intend to…

    Musings: Thank You 2019

It’s been A year, that’s for sure… But, I don’t feel like it’s been a bad year like all the memes would have you believe it has been. At least for me, it doesn’t feel that way. It definitely has had its high highs and low lows, but what year doesn’t? I’m trying to just allow myself to reflect on the year, but realizing we are closing out a decade makes it hard to reflect on the past year. Musings from 2019 Travel – A year of domestic travel! So excited to have checked off New York from my list, but I don’t feel like I adequately can because there…
