    Musings: I Hate Rest Days

There I said it. But I don’t feel any better, because I know how damn important they are. However, I still rarely take them. When people ask about my workout schedule or when I rest, I justify my routine and activities. I actually consider soccer days my rest days. I say this because it NEVER feels like a workout. I love soccer, playing it almost always brings me joy and does not feel like a chore. My body would beg to differ because I’m usually extremely sore after, but my heart and mind don’t agree with my body. I completely acknowledge these statements are a privilege. This is kinda why…

Diary of a Non-Cook: Bacon Wrapped Dates

It’s all in the name… Although the name literally tells you exactly what to do, I was still interested to see how a Book Club (BC) friend made these. I’ve had them before, but at the BC I hosted, Lynsi brought these and I’m pretty sure I ate about ten of them. She mentioned she brought them because they were Whole 30 approved. I didn’t really care about that, I just loved how delicious they were. Bacon around anything is pretty damn delicious. So, when I was assigned an appetizer for Easter, I knew I wanted to make these. I say ‘make’ very loosely, because it is more like curating…

Musings: We All Scream for (the SF Museum of ) ICE CREAM

I paid $45 for 250 photos. Seriously, if you want colorful social media images OR you are a child, this place is probably for you. Anything else, you might want to go to a different “museum.” mu·se·um (noun) – a building in which objects of historical, scientific, artistic, or cultural interest are stored and exhibited. google.com I heard a statistic that the Museum of Ice Cream was the most socially shared museum ever. Don’t quote me on that, but it struck me as odd. Then as I was discussing this stat with a good friend I remembered, from Italy, that all the larger, foreign historic museums don’t allow you to…

    Musings: Let’s Talk About Therapy

I’m just a girl who needed a therapist and decided to talk openly about it. I’m honored that people have reached out to me in regards to my experience with therapy and finding a therapist. I am not an expert and am still in the fresh stages of therapy, less than one year. But I would love to share my experience if it help others. Since I chose to be very open about my mental health post-breakup, a handful of friends and acquaintances have reached out about the details of my experience with therapy. While I believe sharing my truth is also being authentic with those around me, it has…

Race Recap: Sacramento Giant Race, 5k

Same race, same sissy’s, different year. I’ve been putting off writing this recap because honestly, it’s going to be basically the same as the ones I’ve written before 2018, 2017, and 2016. Well, besides the inaugural race (2016), they are pretty much the same. This year they updated the course slightly, which I’ll go over later. Other than that, it was business as usual for our hometown race under the Giants race series. Oh, one thing to note is that after three years they finally updated the race title to fit within the Giant race series a little more cohesively. It is no longer called the Riverfront race. I guess…

Musings: Life is Like My AWAY Luggage

Saying ‘you have baggage’ is way overplayed. But in all seriousness, as I was painfully sitting through my three-hour layover in Dallas waiting to get home after eight days in New York, I got to thinking. Yes, randomly thinking about life, musing to myself. Unlike my AWAY luggage, the bumps and bruises of my life are hidden behind my brown skin. If you look at my AWAY luggage, it is no longer the pristine pale pink it once was when I first received it. It has colorful scrapes, luckily no dents yet. But what those scrapes can’t tell you is it has been to Italy, Orange County, and New York.…

    Musings: My First Disneyland Birthday

It only took me 36 years… Thanks, parentals 😉 HAHA, JK, I’m totally kidding. I am so beyond blessed and spoiled by my parents, this is TOTALLY a joke! But, now I know why we generally didn’t go to Disneyland for my birthday. March in Anaheim is sketchy. Like, are you going to dump buckets or are you going to be warm and sunny? The week before we left I was looking at the weather app each day, possibly multiple times a day. All I kept seeing was the rain emoji for Sunday and cloudy for Monday. Nothing I could do about it, except for plan my outfits accordingly. Months…

    Musings: Boudoir Behavior

My future husband is pretty damn lucky! To write this, I have to openly admit some judgment I am not too proud of. When a friend told me she was doing a boudoir shoot, I thought it was a little odd that she’d spend money and given them to no one. Well, that was my initial (re: ignorant) thought. Then I realized it was just for her. I thought it was a little non-fiscally fit, but the work-in-progress me knows this unfair judgment is unnecessary. I have no right to judge her actions, they do not affect me. I told, her of course, I supported it and I still thought…

    Musings: International Women’s Day

I see you. I appreciate you. I value you. Tell yourself this every damn day. Tell your daughters this. Tell your friends this. Tell your mother’s this. Tell EVERY woman in your life this. Especially, YOU men out there! This day goes beyond my lady tribe, but I can’t write this post without shouting out my love for my unbiological sisters. This last year was hard, to say the least. My lady tribe stepped in and supported and loved me when I couldn’t even ask for it. They threw me a surprise break-up party to celebrate ME, they were available for me day and night, and they empowered me to…

    Musings: 35 Things I’ve Learned at 35

Do I even have 35 things I’ve learned this year? Before we get into it, I have to admit, I’ve been walking around assuming I’m 36 and about to turn 37. HAHA! I guess anything after 30 doesn’t really matter anymore right?! Just teasing, I don’t believe that for one second. I’ve always been one to celebrate birthdays. I love celebrating my next trip around the sun. I’m not afraid to get older, but I am afraid of death. I look forward to a year of lessons learned, the love shared, the laughter had, and good food enjoyed. I don’t expect every year to be shiny and rosy, but I…
