    Musings: Pitchers & Catchers

My favorite two words in February! This day is most important because it truly signifies the START of the baseball season. Pitchers and catchers are officially required to report today, but pretty much everyone comes now too. And in case you aren’t too much in to baseball, each team designates their own Pitchers & Catchers reporting day, BUT I’m only worried about when my boys are in Arizona! My men in Orange && Black are B A C K! As the rumors of Harper keep filling my feed, I am not holding my breath. So many changes happening it seems like its all a little chaotic. Oracle Park will ALWAYS be…

Race Recap: 2019 Annual Race for Justice

When race day lands on National Bagel Day! I’ve said it plenty of times, but this race is one of Sacramento’s best-hidden gem for the running community! The ease of parking, the minimal participants, the hills, and the gorgeous homes all make this one of my favorite runs offered in our city! Oh and it celebrates love, which I love! I didn’t realize this was the 16th year of this race. I’ve done it a bunch, but not sixteen years worth. It always cracks me up that this race is associated with lawyers/attorneys. Love and law don’t seem to equate to me, but hey, it works! As every year goes,…

    Musings: The Elusive Black Badge

Wait…you don’t know what I’m talking about?!? Badge, not the card! Does anyone even care about the AMEX black card anymore, anyways? I digress. I’ve been Yelping for N I N E years! Holy shit! That is a lot of time writing reviews. Anything from Khol’s to the newest restaurant to pop up in Sacramento. Yes, you read that correctly. I’ve Yelped Khol’s, among a slew of other things. At the end of each year, I nominate myself for another year of Yelp elitness. Yes, Yelp allows and encourages you to nominate yourself each year. And so I do, with no shame. To think, this all started as a bet…

    Musings: Gung Hay Fat Choy

It’s our year, Pigs! Or boars, which ever you prefer. This half-Chinese, half-Filipino gal is wishing you and yours a wonderful and prosperous new year! I feel a need or desire to educate those who come to my space about this holiday. I’ve done it every year, for the past handful of years. So, I don’t think I’ll go into all those details. Rather, I wanted to share some of the Pig characteristics, becuase so many of my friends were born in the same year as I, thus we are all PIGS together! Do you ever read something, such as your astrolgical sign or your zodica animal, and sit there…

    Musings: I’m in a Relationship

As the sun was setting, gazing at the most beautiful views of a cotton candy colored sky, I realized something. Something so profound, everything made so much sense at that moment. The clarity was almost too much for me to wrap my brain around. But with each stride, I fell into a clearness that once seemed so unreachable and far away. Finally, my first run of the year was simply, yet lucidly unraveling the jumbled thoughts and ideas I’ve had about running for a long time. Lately, running and I have had an extremely volatile relationship. To be fair, it has been volatile since I ran the Napa marathon in…

    Musings: The BIG Question

The question that everyone keeps asking me. I get it, it’s the perfunctory question that society tells us to ask someone who is recently-ish single. Akin to asking newlyweds when they are going to have children. Pls do not misconstrue this as saying this is right or what you should do, but its a societal norm — a norm we should be cognizant of and really ask ourselves if its a necessity. I know people aren’t asking for malicious reasons, they are just checking in with me. But it is awkward to answer, just as I’m sure it is a little awkward for people to ask someone else. What’s next?…

    Diary of a Non-Cook: I Don’t Like Cooking

There, I finally said it! Don’t say I won’t be a good partner. Don’t say I won’t be a good mother. Don’t say it’ll save me money.Don’t question my womanhood. I’ve tried. A lot. Well…maybe a good amount. An amount that is enough for me. It’s just not something that brings me joy. And I will no longer apologize for it. If I don’t want to cook, I just won’t. I do feel societal pressure to feel the need to cook, especially from family, friends, and my community in general. Yes, at times it saves money. Yes, sometimes it is actually can be fun to cook. But overall, I’m just…

    Musings: Hello, Sunshine!

I joined a REAL book club. Unlike when Mel and I tried to have a book club. I mean a two-person book club was really us enjoying a sushi dinner and talking about the book for five minutes, then just a hangout sesh. While it was a great time, I am excited to really try the whole ‘book club’ thing out. I’ve always wanted to be in one. My new-ish co-worker, JJ, invited me to her book club — kinda out of the blue. I don’t even know if she knows how much I enjoy reading. Anywho, despite my go-go personality and loving all the things, a book club leaves…

Musings: I Was Tidying Up Before It Was Cool

Simplifying for my life, is as tidying up for Marie Kondo. I can’t truly say I was doing this before it was cool, but I can say I was using the basics of Kondo’s method without truly knowing I was. I knew the very basics about her method and I knew she had a book about it all — years ago though. It never popped into my consciousness back at the end of April last year, when I started my process. I remember hearing about touching your stuff and asking yourself if they ‘spark joy.’ I kinda laughed at it, slightly mocked it, but thought it was silly, yet interesting…

Diary of a Non-Cook: Paleo Veggie Chili, NO Beans

Le Cruset is to the kitchen, as Lululemon is to the gym. This winter weather has me craving all the warm things, coupled with trying to make healther food choices + cooking more often. I’m honestly trying to find the joy in cooking. So when I feel the desire too, I’m going with it. No hesitations, just taking it in stride. I really wanted a chili recipe that I enjoy. It is hard to find it the way I like — sans beans. So, of course, I ran straight to Pinterest to find a recipe. Sunday’s dinner came to you via the following Pinterest search: chili, no bean, ground turkey.…
