    Musings: #GaneebanTris – Week 4

2/3 of the way done. When you start training six weeks kinda sounds daunting. Now that I’m in the thick (if you can be in the thick with only six weeks) of it, it seems to be flying past me. The halfway mark felt like I hit the wall. I’m not as excited as I was originally was. Not sure if it’s hormonal or just life, but I’ve lost some lust for the tri!           As week 3 of tri training closed, I still am #MidtownStrong. Small, but significant to me, PRs have been happening. I was able to add another 0.5kg weight to my snatch, but…

    Musings: Today, It’s Baseball Time…

SF Giants BASEBALL to be exact. Not ideally where I’d like to start the season, but just happy it’s STARTING! Just in case you don’t follow the G-men and/or baseball, the SF Giants will be starting the 2018 MLB season against the Dodgers in LA. I  feel gross even writing their name :/ But, it’s not anything we (Giants fans) have control over. The home opener is on April 3, so we have that to look forward to, too! I was lucky enough to get a little taste of the G-men, early…even though no AZ this year 🙁 The fam and I went to the annual Sacramento Rivercats vs the…

    Musings: #GaneebanTris – Week 3

Still humbled, staying humble… …and halfway through. I better stop slacking, cause week 4 is right upon me and I haven’t even gotten through week 3 on the blog. My training hasn’t really progressed in any particular way. I still hit Midtown as much as I can per week, sprinkling soccer in here and there. My normal Saturday conditioner at Midtown didn’t happen, so I did a ‘brick’ style workout at Cal Fit. I’ve heard of brick workouts, but here is the definition: A brick workout refers to the stacking of two disciplines during the same workout, one after the other with minimal to no interruption in between.  Source I…

    Musings: #GaneebanTris

After years of professing my desire to do a triathlon… I’ve finally signed up for a training program. No actual race, but I’ve officially started training. My Midtown friend Sarah and I have spoken about this before and she happened to mention she recently received an email from a training program. She forwarded it to me, I read it and decided I’d try it. It fit my budget and the coach seemed very credible. I also ran the coach’s name by my friend Haley and she said she just met him at an event and that he had a great reputation in town. Also knowing that he is associated with…

Musings: No Buy February – Week 2

Tracking is truly a way to hold you accountable. The Financial Diet and just about EVERYONE else who tries to help others manage their finances recommend writing it all down. I know it works. But I don’t want to admit it to myself. That’s too transparent. That’s too accountable. That’s too real. But doing it week by week has made it a little less intimidating and truly hold me accountable for the crap that I buy. Here is a breakdown of what I spent on erroneous stuff: Food: Breakfasts – Cafe at work (2) Lunch – N A D A {I don’t count my Jamba Juice because have a gift card!}…

    Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Wishing you great happiness and prosperity! The true translation of Gung Hay Fat Choy! Just in case you are new to Musings of a Girly Tomboy or couldn’t tell by my tan complexion, I am half Chinese. I grew up with Chinese grandparents who were very superstitious and celebrated this day fully, with all the trimmings! I miss those days and them, to say the least. But I know that taking the time to acknowledge this special day and trying to celebrate it in my own way AND by creating memories for my family (who are not Chinese at all) I am making them proud. 2018, year of the Dog!…

Race Recap: LSNC Valentine Run 2018

First race R U N of 2018! When you wait for some annoying human to decide if your plans will fall into (their) place or not, sometimes you just have to sign up for a race with one of your fave gal pal’s and her cute baby. If you can’t communicate timely, then that’s your bad! And because this is MY blog, I can vent about it here for a second. I was invited to a GS event 2 days after the due date for purchasing tickets, then the invitee told the group organizer she blamed it all on ‘poor communication!’ Seriously? I guess owning up to your own mischievous…

    Musings: Bad Advice

Hindsight is always twenty-twenty… …as they say. Before I get into my story/experience, I should start this off by saying that I am happy where I am and how it all turned out. None of that ‘New Year, New Me’ BS, just a new year, same me…with a new job. I was not unhappy at my almond job, but I was also not happy. I enjoyed many aspects of  my job there, but there were things and people holding me back in my career. I made the choice, which felt like a sacrifice (and still does) to try something new. Living in Sacramento, we grow up knowing this a ‘State…

    Musings: Solo Movie GO-er

Try something new they said… When was the last time you did something new? Although it isn’t something to write home about AND plenty of people do it on the reg, my ‘something new’ has always been intimidating to me. Why? I have no clue! Going to the movies always felt like a partner or group activity. I was always intimidated to go by myself. I honestly have no idea why, insert shrink diagnosis. I can easily go have dinner by myself, even sit at a table solo, bar preferred though. I am generally not bothered by being out and about by myself. Maybe I like to have someone with me…
