    Musings: A SURPRISE Breakup Party

No Juan was harmed during this celebration! I feel like this type of thing only happens to Real Housewives of [insert hella different cities] or on SATC! N E V E R did I imagine my girl tribe would surprise me with a breakup party! I woke up the next day with the largest smile I’ve had in a long time and even caught myself literally laughing out loud to myself, about the antics of a wonderful evening celebrating my breakup. The group chat for the entire next day was literally giving me life and had me laughing out loud in my cubicle and at the gym! Seriously, I am…

Musings: Take Your Parents to Work Day

Millennials are good for something… …like faux national holidays celebrating food or random things for social media, being overly active in expressing their feelings, and a whole bunch of other sarcastic things you can insert here. However, one thing I can totally get behind is the creation of Take Your Parents to Work Day. For years, we millennials have accompanied our parents to work for a day. Did you do this growing up? I loved going with my Dad, because he let me do work (or play, I’m not too sure) on Excel and I felt important and excited to eventually enter the workforce. Even though he was in finance…

What I Learned From Being a Bonus Mom/Daddy’s Girlfriend

I’ve been wanting to write this for awhile… ..but over the last six-plus months this topic has been sitting in my drafts section, my life and role in L’s life have changed. So instead of talking about it in the first person, I can now write about it with reflection, since I was abruptly removed from this role. In a previous post, I said goodbye to L. I didn’t know that last time I saw L would actually be the last time I saw her. But it was. I do hope I see her in the future, but I don’t think it will happen. I have accepted it. I am where…

    City Girl Does Más Cancún

Too much goodness means más is required… We didn’t have too many more days left of our trip after the wedding, but we enjoyed every last second of our vacation. MONDAY Remember when I said we had $750 in resort credit to burn through? Well, when Lil and I saw that swimming with dolphins was an option, we knew we’d check that off our bucket list. I will say, we both have an empathetic heart for these animals that are raised in captivity for our enjoyment, but we still continued to book this excursion. There were a couple other options we both wanted to try, but with our schedule and the…

    Musings: Dear Dad…

An intangible gift for my beloved Poppa Bear. Dear Dad, It’s your 35th Father’s Day! Not for any particular reason should this one be extra special, but I decided to do something different this year. Instead, I wanted to come here and share with the world (who reads my blog) my love, my appreciation, my fears, and my admiration for you. My Poppa Bear. My Dad. My Daddy. My Rock. My Protector. My Coach. My Everything. Mom, don’t get sad, you are plenty of these things and more too! I have never had to wonder what it would be like to not have you around. For that, I am eternally…

    Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Cheers to the beginning of another Lunar New Year! This half-Chinese gal loves that I get to celebrate this new year along with the calendar new year. We don’t do anything too celebratory, but I enjoy that it’s part of my heritage! Here’s a look back at the last few Chinese New Year’s here at Musings of a Girly Tomboy — 2014, 2015, 2016. via the Interwebs 2017 is the year of the Fire Rooster! In case you are interested or are a Rooster sign, then here are some things to note via The Sun in the UK: Lucky Numbers: 5, 7, and 8 Days: 4th & 26th days of…

Musings: Every Summer Has a Story…

2016  was the Summer of polarizing emotions, feelings, and life. More than anything, emotionally this was the hardest Summer I’ve ever experienced. Within the depths of deep sadness and anger, were moments of fun, travel, and good food. All culminated with happiness, but to get here was a struggle. I’m pretty sure I came across the saying “Every Summer Has a Story,” as I was scrolling through Pinterest one day. It stuck with me. It rings so true. Even as an adult, I still live for summers. Bikini’s, tans, vacations, and watermelon — summer is my favorite season, even in the sweltering Sacramento heat. Last year I wrote a post…

    Race Recap – Riverfront 5k

I’m a sucker for any inaugural race… ..but you already know that. Since the Sacramento Rivercats (AAA team) were acquired by the SF Giants affiliate last year, my favorite team is literally in my backyard for the next four years (I think that’s how long the contract is for). That being said, the Giant Race series has races at all of their affiliates – Scottsdale for Spring Training, Sacramento for their AAA team, San Jose for their AA team, and then they end with a final race in the City (SF) for the final race of the series. This year, Lil and I are running three of the four. Since…

    …and Like That It’s Over!

Christmas has come and gone… …just like that. If you remember correctly, I was trying to find my Christmas spirit on Christmas Eve. Shortly after I wrote/posted that, it started to sink in and magically I began to start feeling more in the spirit. Maybe it was just saying it out loud (well, really writing it) that made snap out of it. Maybe the super relaxing pedicure that was pure bliss also helped. But by Christmas Eve I was in the full Christmas spirit and ready for all the celebrations ahead. Christmas Eve w/ J’s family. This long weekend was exactly what I needed. Family time. Family time. Friend time. Lets just say 3.5 days was not…

    Crusin’, Baby!

The last summer hurrah…The perfect way to end our summer of small trips. I’ve done some traveling, minimal, but enough. But I’ve never been to the airport as many times as I have this summer, in that short of time span. I feel completely lucky to be sharing my adventures with you. This summer turned out much more exciting than I would have thought back in January. This trip has been a long time coming. Originally my Mom gave us some traveling funds as a thank you for motivating her to become healthier, which involved working out every day for over a year, running her first ever half marathon, and…
