Race Recap: The Giant Race 10k

The Giants may be having an AWFUL year, but their racing series is NOT! Ahh, to be so happy to run and support your team who is having the worst season (possibly) ever is humbling! Regardless of their current league standing, thousands flocked to San Francisco this weekend to show their support. Putting one foot in front of another for 3.1 miles, 6.2 miles, or 13.1 miles, we showed our spirit and love for our FAVORITE team! Lil and I committed to being Triple Baggers this year, which means we ran the Rivercats 5k, San Jose Giants 5 miler, and we finished it with the SF Giant Race 10k. These…

    Ganeeban Runs Shamrock'n – Week 5

Lean in…as a friend said! After last week, Katie gave me advice that was awesome. She told me to just ‘lean in’ to life, to running, to everything. Take it as it comes and don’t be hard on yourself. I like that advice and it’s what I plan to do. I thought I was doing that, but I think last weeks post may have seemed like I was complaining or berating myself, which I didn’t mean too. Monday Schedule: Cross Train or 3 Miles Easy Monday Actual: 3.48 Mi Easy, Indoor Soccer canceled at the last minute 🙁 Tuesday Schedule: Fleet Feet Fun Run or 30-45 Mins Easy Tuesday Actual: Nada…

Race Recap: Run to Feed the Hungry 2014

I’m a Race Rebel! Only when it comes to this race. If you’re a new-ish reader, you can read last year’s recap here, I don’t want to bore everyone with redundancy! Let’s just say, with 27,000 runner’s each year, I deem it acceptable to hop in about a quarter of a mile into the race. They’ve gotten smarter over the years and blocked the entrance so you can walk to the start line and hop in, that being said…I just wait my happy butt on a random little island near the start and hop in after the fast-ies pass. Yeah, take your judgey pants off! I pay for the race,…

Race Recap: San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon

I finally did a Rock ‘n’ Roll race! Some hate them, some love them…I was just a girl trying to run one! Finally, after years of hearing of them, I finally committed to running one. Hoopla, schoopla…it was going down AND I would be taking a mini vacation or long weekend (which ever one you prefer to use) for the race. Win-Win in my book. In addition to this being my first RNR, I also convinced my best friend (C) and her hubbs (R) to run it with me. I don’t remember why or what the significance was, but for some reason all of the RNR series was discounted. Knowing…

Race Recap: Dirty Secret Trail Run

Been there, done that! Dirty Secret Trail Run HA! Like that means anything. Just because you’ve run the same exact trail (race), doesn’t mean it still can’t kick your ass!! I respect the race, the distance, the difficulty…but I didn’t really respect my training for such a task. My current training plan: no training plan. Oh yeah, pretty smart, right? Enough pity party. This race is put on by our local Fleet Feet (Sacramento). They only put on a few trail races a year, so they fill up fairly quickly. This race offers two distances – the short course is 5.8 miles and the long course is 10.3 miles. My…

Race Recap: Credit Union Sactown 10 Mile Run

Sometimes you just run… Sactown 10 And sometimes you are lured by a deal, say two races for the price of $60. The Sacramento Running Association did just that, they offered the Super Sunday Run 10k and the Sactown 10 miler for a steal. I hadn’t run either before, mixed with my euphoria of finishing my first marathon, I signed up for both races. Little did I know that I’d be fairly burnt out of running and an onset of laziness due to gloomy weather, would set in. Needless to say, I was in a dilemma when I realized it was time for a 10 mile race, which in my opinion,…

Race Recap – Dirty Girl Mud Run 5k (Sacramento)

Sometimes it’s just ALL about the ladies… Dirty Girl Mud Run Sacramento // Sacramento Raceway Gentleman, sorry…you have to sit this one out…OR be our cheerleader/picture takers/holder of stuff/positive vibe giving friends during this race. And we’re completely okay with that! Gotta get a #selfie before the race! When you think of the word “girly” you do not correlate “mud” with that word. But that’s why we’re here! Gathering a great group of gals, of all fitness levels, we made our way to the Sacramento Raceway. Dirty Girl made it very clear and apparent that parking costs $10 c-a-s-h. They warned you multiple times, so if you didn’t have it,…

Race Recap: The Scottsdale Giant Race 9k

It’s totally normal to wake up before 6AM on vacation, right?!? New shoes, same perspective… Well of course it is, if you want to be a part of an inaugural race. I think they use this word “inaugural” very loosely, because they’ve offered this race before. However, they changed the distances and made it more baseball themed. I’m not a hundred percent correct here, so don’t quote me, but I believe it went from either a 5k or 10k option to a 3 mile or 9k option. As per the usu, if I’m going to sign up for a race, I might as well do the longer course (well, as…

    Musings: Torture in a Tub

Runner’s are sadistic! I guess I should amend that statement, athlete’s are sadistic. Ice bath’s are pure torture! Recently it has been suggested that I try this out, for my sore hip, by a few people. No, plain ‘ol icing wasn’t going to cut it, a straight up ice bath is what was required. I’ve been putting it off for awhile, but after my long run on Sunday, I knew it needed to be done. I’ve been dealing with a very unassuming, needling, achy right hip for awhile. It was tolerable and manageable for awhile. But after my athletic endeavours last weekend, it went into full “hurting” mode all week,…

    Musings: Garmin & Gut Checks…

Random as they come, this blog post will be… Still working out the kinks, but I got my first run in with my new toy: Wednesday Speed Workout w/ my Fleet Feet training group: 1.5 mil – Warmp up 3 mi – 2mins @ 10k pace, 30 sec @ 10mi pace 1.5 mi – Cool down Thank goodness for my new, silly headlamp too. It got dark before 7PM last night! It definitely came in handy to see how many bugs were flying into my face. We will see how it goes, again, for tomorrow’s 6mi AM run… As I’ve been “training my gut,” I’ve been on the lookout for…
