    Musings: The Four Agreements

Some friends are spirits who you need in your life… …you just didn’t know it, until something magical happens. I was lucky to met Mel many decades ago, when her son and my Lovebug met in elementary school. Over the years, our friendship has slowly blossomed. I admire her for so many reasons, but her spirituality and openness has been something that is very inspiring. Recently, she posted ‘The Four Agreements’ and I needed to be scrolling through my FB feed at that exact moment to read them. I’ve been feeling a little lost a lot lately — maybe a pre-mid life crisis, maybe just life. Her post spoke to…

    Musings: High School Insecurities

I’ve never had perfect skin… And I completely thank my lucky stars that I’ve never had real acne. I’ve always had pimples and some minor sports acne, but nothing that made me insecure or really care. Well, here we are at 34 and I’m feeling insecure as ever. The skin on my face has been freaking out for about the last eight to ten weeks or so, give or take a couple weeks. I cannot figure out what it is. I haven’t changed anything that could irritate my skin — no new detergents, soaps, shower stuff, perfume, make-up, face wash, or ANYTHING! At the highest point of irritation, both of…

    Musings: As of Late

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve caught you up on life. I kinda miss doing my Rose & Thorn weekend recaps. Although I felt they were getting monotonous, I still enjoy detailing my weekend out for my readers. Anywho, I thought I’d catch you up on what’s going on in my life lately. And by lately, I mean the last month or so. Oh Happy Hayes – My cousin is marrying the sweetest girl, his college sweetheart! The lovely ladies of the Ganeeban clan were gracious enough to throw her a Bridal Shower. Since my Mom and all the Aunties were in charge, I just asked if I could…

    Treat Yourself Tuesday

Treat Yo Self! Olives ‘n’ Wine I don’t generally need a reason to treat myself, but I thought it would be fun to do this link up from Becky at Olives ‘n’ Wine. I’ve been following her for awhile, but this is the first time I’m going to sit here and brag about what I’ve bought myself lately. So, normally I don’t buy myself too much! Psh, such a lie. I thought I’d try it out though. I don’t have kids or pets, so I pretty much get to spend my money on ME! I also, at times, get to spoil those I love and enjoy that just as much,…

WIAW – My Stint as a Faux Food Stylist

When your job doesn’t suck… Thanks, Jenn! …you get to do cool stuff, like shop for carbs, eat carbs, play with carbs, food style carbs, watch a photographer take pictures of carbs, and get messy with carbs. Or almonds, but all you runners readers love carbs so that sounded more fun! HAHA, its a good thing that almonds generally go on or in carbs, so its a win-win for me, just not my waist line. I had to do some really hard work prior to the shoot. Such as visit a very popular bakery in town and test run some products, work with the owner of said bakery as well,…

    5 Things Friday

All over the damn place… Thanks, Clare! My life feels like its all over the damn place, since I landed in Sacramento on Wednesday! I had a direct flight that stopped in San Diego, but I didn’t have to change plans. So, of course I turned on my phone to re-connect with the social media world…only to find out that my Dad was in the Emergency Room (not on social media, haha). I couldn’t get a hold of either parent or the Lil, so I was hopeless. I had minimal information and wasn’t sure I’d have a ride home. Needless to say, 7 days in NOLA, then home to this…

Thinking Out Loud – Back At It

Send me on a work trip and I forget how to blog… Amanda at .RUNNING WITH SPOONS. Send me on a work trip in New Orleans…and I really forget how to blog. With beads, booze, and fried food, I was in a Big Easy haze of life. But, I’m back at it. Back to work, back to real life, and trying to pretend I don’t have about 5 loads of laundry calling my name this weekend :/ 1. Be Articulate – sometimes it is really, really hard. Mix emotions and your thoughts and sometimes you come out sounding like a raging lunatic. So, take a second or ten and collect…

The Great Garmin Debacle of 2013

Oh no you didn’t!!   When you order from Amazon you hope and think that everything is as advertised, right? Well, after finally pulling the trigger on a Garmin watch, I was proven wrong. One could blame this on the fact that I purchased one at a fairly discounted rate or because it was from a third party seller. However, when something is listed as “Condition: New” it should be as stated. Well, mine wasn’t.   Let’s go back about five weeks, or so. Yes, that’s how long it took me to register my dang watch. Since I could see the pertinent information – times, pace, and distance, I didn’t really think…

    I'm Okay with a Cliche or two…

I’m a hot mess!   Okay, I get it… A little over a month away from the big day and I am a huge bag of mixed emotions with tired legs and a fairly busy schedule. However, as cliche as one doing their first marathon can be, I’m over here making sure I meet all the criteria. From what I’ve gathered, watching “Spirit of the Marathon,” is as cliche as I can get. Motivational. Inspirational. A first timer to do. So, last week I made sure to hit up amazon.com to order my copy. PS – When did amazon raise their price to $35 for free shipping? Annoying!   Amazon come-up! Along with that, I purchased…

    Runner's Swag on High!

I’m still treating this 30 year old body, like it’s a 20 year old version…  Up until this past weekend, my body has been doing great after runs. Alas, I had to hit a wall somewhere. After running an unofficial half marathon with the lil, then showering and running straight to an outdoor game (with no subs) – my body has yet to recover. Granted, I haven’t allowed it to either. Monday night was an indoor soccer game, Tuesday AM was a strength and condition class and 6 miles, relatively easy, in the evening. Needless to say, it’s Wednesday and I have my temp/speed training with my running group tonight. So, as I…
