Race Recap: 2019 Annual Race for Justice

When race day lands on National Bagel Day! I’ve said it plenty of times, but this race is one of Sacramento’s best-hidden gem for the running community! The ease of parking, the minimal participants, the hills, and the gorgeous homes all make this one of my favorite runs offered in our city! Oh and it celebrates love, which I love! I didn’t realize this was the 16th year of this race. I’ve done it a bunch, but not sixteen years worth. It always cracks me up that this race is associated with lawyers/attorneys. Love and law don’t seem to equate to me, but hey, it works! As every year goes,…

Race Recap: California International Marathon – Relay 2015

Same name, different team. Obsessed with this sign this year. I think the California International Marathon is magical. I may be slightly biased because it resides in my backyard, but nonetheless, there is something that it does to this city, year after year. If you aren’t pissed that you cannot drive anywhere in Sacramento because of the road closures, then you are on the course cheering your heart out. There is no in between, unless you’re running. You either admire the feat or you detest it for causing you delays to and fro. If you’ve been around awhile, then you know this was the race I ran as my first…

Race Recap: The Giant Race 10k

My team > Your team Via Just sayin’! It’s only the sixth annual SF Giant Race. It seems like it’s been around longer than that, but I guess my time perception is always off. I think it is amazing that the SF Giants put together three different fun runs for their organization and farm teams (Scottsdale, San Jose, and SF). That being said, I cannot believe this is my first race recap for this race, even though I’ve been running it for a few years now (missed 2013 & 2014). I’m also wishing and praying that now that the Sacramento Rivercats are their AAA team, maybe they’ll think of hosting…

    Race Recap: Shamrock'N Half Marathon

Seven years later I’m still running this race… I’m not sure what else to say about this race. But I do know that every race is different, so I can recap from this particular race day perspective. In addition, they slightly changed up the course, AGAIN this year! If you feel so inclined, you can see what went down the last two times I ran this race:  2014 2013 This is truly one of Sacramento’s largest races. The biggest exception is the California International Marathon (CIM), but we won’t count that in this statement. There are plenty of half marathons in the surrounding areas, but not too many that are…

Race Recap: Napa Valley Marathon 2015

The ‘make or break’ marathon… Everyone one says don’t decide if you like or dislike (re: hate) something only after doing it once. Or is that just for food? Anywho, I decided, after over a year sabbatical I’d attempt another marathon (CIM 2013 was my first). The lure of Napa was really a determining factor, but seeing if I was truly a ‘marathoner’ was also what sealed the deal approximately a year ago when I signed up for this race. Here we are a year later and my time to shine was here. Since the race was about an hour and fifteen minutes from Sac, we decided this would be…

Race Recap: Run for a Safe Haven 2014

Not every race is a race. Something that, somewhere in the depths of my running sole, I get this, but my mind never truly understands. But this year, this race, I accepted it. I didn’t try to kill myself on this 5k, I ran it to run it and that was good enough for me! That being said, unless I am out of town or sick, I will run this race every year. My Sister’s House is an organization that I wholeheartedly support. The only real difference I saw from this year versus last years race was the amount of participants. For some reason, this year the numbers looked much…

Race Recap: Dirty Secret Trail Run

Been there, done that! Dirty Secret Trail Run HA! Like that means anything. Just because you’ve run the same exact trail (race), doesn’t mean it still can’t kick your ass!! I respect the race, the distance, the difficulty…but I didn’t really respect my training for such a task.  My current training plan: no training plan. Oh yeah, pretty smart, right? Enough pity party. This race is put on by our local Fleet Feet (Sacramento). They only put on a few trail races a year, so they fill up fairly quickly. This race offers two distances – the short course is 5.8 miles and the long course is 10.3 miles. My…

Race Recap: Blue Diamond Almonds Shamrock'n Half Marathon

Sometimes running someone else’s race is OKAY! Well, if you know that’s what you’re doing! Originally, I had planned on running this race to PR, which I guess, is what I hope to do at every race. But, as the weeks dwindled away and things happened – fairly recently, I might add. It was decided that the Boy would run his first half marathon and I would run (help) with him for the race.    Blue Diamond Almonds Shamrock’n Half Marathon Gear Grid // C9 -Garmin – Balega International – Lululemon – Under Armour – Saucony Kinvara 4 Shamrock’n has become a huge Sacramento race staple. This is the first…

Race Recap: Super Sunday Run 10k

First race of the year! Obligatory race IG collage! Since my 49er’s didn’t make it, why not get my run on…since I’m not that vested in the game. I’d be lying if I didn’t also admit that SRA had a special if you bundled this race with their 10 miler race, you got a discount ($60 total). So really, I’m just sad my boys in red and gold weren’t playing in the big game! Sacramento Running Association is well known locally, but is more recognizable as the organization that puts on the California International Marathon. This race has been around for awhile, but this was my first time ever running it.…

    'eeeeef Friday

It’s Friday. Its Fabulous. Five Fabulous “F” things going on in my life… Featured: Might not be the best descriptor, but close enough. I IG’d a pic of my stems before and after my trail run last weekend and tagged @Balega_International (socks) in it and then later that week they #reposted it! I was stoked, I always appreciate a fave brand of mine giving me some love. Then on Twitter, @Superfeet gave me a little tweet saying thanks for following them. I’m obsessed with their Berry insoles, they are the only things I use in my running shoes – total game changer! Screen shot of @blaega_international ‘s IG @balega- Twitter @Superfeet…
