Musings: Every Summer Has a Story…

2016  was the Summer of polarizing emotions, feelings, and life. More than anything, emotionally this was the hardest Summer I’ve ever experienced. Within the depths of deep sadness and anger, were moments of fun, travel, and good food. All culminated with happiness, but to get here was a struggle. I’m pretty sure I came across the saying “Every Summer Has a Story,” as I was scrolling through Pinterest one day. It stuck with me. It rings so true. Even as an adult, I still live for summers. Bikini’s, tans, vacations, and watermelon — summer is my favorite season, even in the sweltering Sacramento heat. Last year I wrote a post…

Cali Girl Does Chicago – AGAIN…Comes to an End

Let the good times roll…then go home 😉 In case you wanted to see the first part of our trip, peep these posts: Cali Girl Does Chicago – AGAIN Cali Girl Does Chicago – AGAIN, AGAIN l MONDAY l Day two of the IFT 2016! The second day of the show is always the longest. All the hours. All the standing. All the talking! It went well for the booth and again, the ladies were clad in a new scarf! Postmates didn’t fail me this time and we were able to order lunch from the Bongo Room. J was kind enough to intercept the food and bring it to us…

Cali Girl Does Chicago – AGAIN, AGAIN

Sometimes you gotta GRIND on the weekend! In case you wanted to see how the trip started, peep this post: Cali Girl Does Chicago – AGAIN l SATURDAY l Tradeshow life means that I give up my weekend for a cool experience, with a side of working. We got up early to go grab some breakfast, away from the hotel. Hotel breakfast is overrated and too expensive. So I used good ‘ol Yelp and we found our way to Wildberry Pancakes and Cafe. It was a great decision, because it was delicious, but bad decision because the Rock N Roll Chicago 5k just finished and way too many racers decided…

Cali Girl Does Chicago – AGAIN

Chi Town, weeeeeee’reeeeee baaaack! Lucky for me, I get to travel domestically for work once (now really twice) a year for tradeshows. This year brought us back to Chicago, which I couldn’t have been happier about. This place, minus the random weather, has so many fun things to do and see, plus all the amazing food. I will say, being there for a week is a little much, but just enough to make you miss good ‘ol California! Thankfully, my fave traveling partner could join me again. Vaycay for him, work for me…with a little playing too 😉 We were able to add to our silly little hashtag – #SAndJTravels_Chicago…

    Musings: Transparency

Sometimes I go looking on Pinterest for quotes… Because noting is as transparent as water. // Chicago, IL 2015 …or sometimes they just pop up in my random feed. But none the less, I’m one of those girls, who bides her time by scrolling through randomness. At times, I’ve come across images or text that stop me mid-scroll and speak to me. Might sound a little dramatic, but it’s true. As I’ve gotten older, I realized that above anything, transparency is what is important to me. I used to think it was honesty, but I think that really finds itself intertwined in transparency. It’s taken me 32 years to realize…

    Every Summer has a Story…

…but our story is my favorite! I love that saying…it rings so true. Many equate the summer ending with school starting, but for a woman already in her career I don’t have that luxury anymore. Although, there is one pretty little gal in our household we get to live vicariously through summer eyes. I guess I shouldn’t forget J too, he gets a summer break. So really, I’m the minority in our family. Maybe that’s why this summer, compared to the last few, seems so different. I’m just sitting here jealous of sleeping in, days at the park, and no cares of school (re: work) for two of the loveliest,…

Cali Girl Does Chicago – The End!

I love exploring different places… …but nothing feels as good as home! All good things must come to an end, but first you better enjoy the hell out of them. I wasn’t homesick at all, but I was definitely missing my pillows and L’s sweet little face! But before we departed the Windy City, we enjoyed our last two days to the fullest (even with full trade show days)! Day 2 of the trade show is always the longest! So, knowing that I tried to get plenty of sleep. Standing on your feet for 7 hours, may not sound tough, but it gets exhausting. I ordered room service for breakfast,…

Cali Girl Does Chicago – Part Deux

What to do next? I already saw the bean, that’s all I really cared about accomplishing this trip! I guess it’s time to focus on my EATS! I can’t forget about working, I better worry about that a little too 😉 The days blurred together, but it was officially the start of the weekend. I guess it didn’t matter much, because this weekend in Chicago would be a wash. By wash, I mean I’d be working both days. I started my day off with a lovely 4mi run, along Lake Michigan or the Water Front as they call it. I didn’t bring my phone to snap pics, because I took…

Cali Girl Does Chicago – Part Une

When work calls… …you GO! The Windy City. Chi Town. Chicago. Whatever you prefer to call it, was my home for six days. My time spent in the Windy City can be described as — a little fun (being a tourist) and lots(ish) of work! Cheesy Moment Alert: This was J and I’s first flight together.    Since I don’t travel often for work, I forget how important a direct flight can be. Lucky for me, on our way to Chicago we had a direct flight, albeit a full flight. Nothing much to note of our flight, other than we were pretty hungry when we landed. Traveler’s Note: Southwest uses…
