    Musings: The BIG Question

The question that everyone keeps asking me. I get it, it’s the perfunctory question that society tells us to ask someone who is recently-ish single. Akin to asking newlyweds when they are going to have children. Pls do not misconstrue this as saying this is right or what you should do, but its a societal norm — a norm we should be cognizant of and really ask ourselves if its a necessity. I know people aren’t asking for malicious reasons, they are just checking in with me. But it is awkward to answer, just as I’m sure it is a little awkward for people to ask someone else. What’s next?…

    Musings: One SPECtacular Year

Workavsaries are a thing, right? If you haven’t come to notice it, I love to celebrate milestones, birthday’s, anniversaries — pretty much anything that can be celebrated. I know this tradition stems from my parents, because they too, like myself, celebrate all this stuff as well – mine, theirs, Lils, everyone’s! ‘Birthday Month’ notwithstanding of course, it created itself and continues to be strong. I won’t defend it, it just happens that way every year. Why stop it? HA HA! In 2017 I left a job where I loved my coworkers and I enjoyed what I was doing, but saw NO career growth in sight. I left that comfort and…

Diary of a Non-Cook: The EASIEST Appetizer Ever

Well Christmas came and went like a whirlwind. And as per the usu, I was tasked with an appetizer for our big celebration. I really should ask for dessert, since I can never get there on time. But, it makes the suspense that much more exciting for everyone 😉 Happily, I was done with most of my Christmas stuff a week or so-ish before the big day. Little things here and there, but nothing like the last few years of stress and more stress. Easy and light, just how the holidays should be. But I didn’t really feel like making an extravagant appetizer, so I ran to Pinterest and found…

    Diary of a Non-Cook(ie) Party

Another December, another yearly tradition. I introduced you to our Cookie Party tradition in 2016, but Lil and I have been attending it for over two decades. It’s been going on for three to four decades, from what I’m told. So, it shouldn’t be a surprise that it happened again this year.  I wanted to make something, but the party landed on a very busy weekend. The night before, the Guidette and I hosted our holiday party. I knew we’d be up late and tired from all the shenannegins of throwing a party. To be fair, I didn’t do much, she did most of it. I was just there co-hosting,…

    Musings: Travel Anxiety

Do you have travel anxiety? I didn’t know this was a thing. One day, Juan (I believe this is who told me about this) brought up my packing style. I’m second guessing if this is whom I actually had the convo with, but the message has stuck with me, whoever it was with. The gist was when you pack a ton of stuff (or overpacking), you essentially have travel anxiety. When I first heard this it kinda made sense. I always overpack for every trip. I make up scenarios and needs for items that will not or never exist. I usually only use about 2/3 of what I bring, but I…

    Musings: Disowned at 35?

Can your Mother disown you at 35? Asking for a friend. HAHA! Kidding, mostly! But seriously, she was a champ about it all, BUT I do know how much she detests what I did. Well, I should say what WE did. Lil and I. 35 years later, about 25 years of being told I wasn’t allowed too, Lil and I finally got our first tattoos. The permanency of a tattoo felt daunting. Is there something that you want on your body for your ENTIRE life? No going back when its there. There is one thing I always wanted, a soccer ball. However, my Mom is adamantly opposed to her daughter having…

Musings: Take Your Parents to Work Day

Millennials are good for something… …like faux national holidays celebrating food or random things for social media, being overly active in expressing their feelings, and a whole bunch of other sarcastic things you can insert here. However, one thing I can totally get behind is the creation of Take Your Parents to Work Day. For years, we millennials have accompanied our parents to work for a day. Did you do this growing up? I loved going with my Dad, because he let me do work (or play, I’m not too sure) on Excel and I felt important and excited to eventually enter the workforce. Even though he was in finance…

What I Learned From Being a Bonus Mom/Daddy’s Girlfriend

I’ve been wanting to write this for awhile… ..but over the last six-plus months this topic has been sitting in my drafts section, my life and role in L’s life have changed. So instead of talking about it in the first person, I can now write about it with reflection, since I was abruptly removed from this role. In a previous post, I said goodbye to L. I didn’t know that last time I saw L would actually be the last time I saw her. But it was. I do hope I see her in the future, but I don’t think it will happen. I have accepted it. I am where…

    Musings: Dear Dad…

An intangible gift for my beloved Poppa Bear. Dear Dad, It’s your 35th Father’s Day! Not for any particular reason should this one be extra special, but I decided to do something different this year. Instead, I wanted to come here and share with the world (who reads my blog) my love, my appreciation, my fears, and my admiration for you. My Poppa Bear. My Dad. My Daddy. My Rock. My Protector. My Coach. My Everything. Mom, don’t get sad, you are plenty of these things and more too! I have never had to wonder what it would be like to not have you around. For that, I am eternally…

Race Recap: Women’s Fitness Festival, 10k

I didn’t realize it’s been F O U R years since I’ve run this race. I literally thought I ran it two years ago. But, NO! I think I remember why. I actually love the reason this race exists. Women ONLY race in my favorite city, Sacramento. That’s pretty rad. Empowering. All of the good that running does for our community and for women all rolled into one event for our city. That being said. A few things I remember why I don’t generally run this race anymore. In fact, that last time I ran this race they offered the half marathon distance, back in 2014. One reason is this…
