    Musings: The BIG Question

The question that everyone keeps asking me. I get it, it’s the perfunctory question that society tells us to ask someone who is recently-ish single. Akin to asking newlyweds when they are going to have children. Pls do not misconstrue this as saying this is right or what you should do, but its a societal norm — a norm we should be cognizant of and really ask ourselves if its a necessity. I know people aren’t asking for malicious reasons, they are just checking in with me. But it is awkward to answer, just as I’m sure it is a little awkward for people to ask someone else. What’s next?…

    Diary of a Non-Cook(ie) Party

Another December, another yearly tradition. I introduced you to our Cookie Party tradition in 2016, but Lil and I have been attending it for over two decades. It’s been going on for three to four decades, from what I’m told. So, it shouldn’t be a surprise that it happened again this year.  I wanted to make something, but the party landed on a very busy weekend. The night before, the Guidette and I hosted our holiday party. I knew we’d be up late and tired from all the shenannegins of throwing a party. To be fair, I didn’t do much, she did most of it. I was just there co-hosting,…

Musings: My FIRST Best of Sacramento Party

I love my city! I’m pretty sure you know that by now, but just in case you didn’t…I had to say it AGAIN! We have a local publication, Sacramento Magazine, that has been around forever. Poppa Bear has been a subscriber forever. I always love paging through the magazine at their house or anywhere really. This magazine releases a Best of Sac list every year and then they host an event to showcase the winners, which raises money for a specific charity. Year after year, I’ve seen all the event photos and heard about the event. I was always too cheap to buy a ticket. And sadly, was never offered…

Musings: What I Don’t Want to Be Known For…

The girl that is always on her phone. And I am! Ugh! And not in a good way! Girl — PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN! “You’re always on your phone.” “Quit social mediaing.” “What else is new, she’s always on her phone.” Good God. How disconnected am I from this literal world? I’m embarrassed that this is me. I can’t hide from it. I don’t tout it. But shit, it isn’t something I want to be known for. I HATE when anyone says these things to me and I argue that I’m not. But really, if people are pointing it out, then I must damn well be. I don’t want to be…

    City Girl Does Cancún

It all started with a letter… …and continues with a beautiful and very memorable wedding on the beach of Cancún. Not, not my love story. HAHA! But the dreamiest of stories of the Wench meeting, falling in love and marrying Hotlanta in a whirlwind long-ish weekend in Mexico surrounded by love, family, and friends. I absolutely love the idea of a destination wedding. I love even more when friends decide that is how their wedding will go down. #LivinLaVidaThornton! We’ve been anticipating this trip for over a year and the calendar date finally met reality. There was definitely a little somewhat last minute rearranging I had to do since my plus…

    Musings: #GaneebanTris – Week 4

2/3 of the way done. When you start training six weeks kinda sounds daunting. Now that I’m in the thick (if you can be in the thick with only six weeks) of it, it seems to be flying past me. The halfway mark felt like I hit the wall. I’m not as excited as I was originally was. Not sure if it’s hormonal or just life, but I’ve lost some lust for the tri!           As week 3 of tri training closed, I still am #MidtownStrong. Small, but significant to me, PRs have been happening. I was able to add another 0.5kg weight to my snatch, but…

    Musings: Today, It’s Baseball Time…

SF Giants BASEBALL to be exact. Not ideally where I’d like to start the season, but just happy it’s STARTING! Just in case you don’t follow the G-men and/or baseball, the SF Giants will be starting the 2018 MLB season against the Dodgers in LA. I  feel gross even writing their name :/ But, it’s not anything we (Giants fans) have control over. The home opener is on April 3, so we have that to look forward to, too! I was lucky enough to get a little taste of the G-men, early…even though no AZ this year 🙁 The fam and I went to the annual Sacramento Rivercats vs the…

Race Recap: LSNC Valentine Run 2018

First race R U N of 2018! When you wait for some annoying human to decide if your plans will fall into (their) place or not, sometimes you just have to sign up for a race with one of your fave gal pal’s and her cute baby. If you can’t communicate timely, then that’s your bad! And because this is MY blog, I can vent about it here for a second. I was invited to a GS event 2 days after the due date for purchasing tickets, then the invitee told the group organizer she blamed it all on ‘poor communication!’ Seriously? I guess owning up to your own mischievous…

Musings: It Isn’t Fall Without Apple Hill

Do you have Fall traditions?! If you live in or near Sacramento, I’m sure you travel to Apple Hill at least once a year. If you’re lucky (and brave), you go more. What is Apple Hill, you may ask? It’s rolling hills of apple orchards, pumpkin patches, and Christmas tree farms in Camino, California. Home of apple fritters the size of your face and an endless supply of apple donuts and apple cider. Among other things…such as arts and crafts for sale, homemade everything, and a classic Fall day with family and/or friends. It’s basically a Fall staple for any Northern Californian. From Sacramento, it’s only about a 45 minute drive…on a good day. I could…

City Girl Hikes: Alamere Falls – Bolinas, CA

This City girl seeks nature from time to time! Since we haven’t done a hike since last summer AND we finally had a free weekend with nothing on the calendar, I told J we were hiking! HAHA! Well, I really said I needed a hike in my life. He obliged and we asked our friends Melanie & Alex to join us, as they had for last summers hike! We almost canceled the hike with Outside Lands and the freeway repair, we thought the freeway would be a mess. Just to get to the hike is a little over two hours. Add traffic and we’d be stuck in the car all…
