Race Recap: Sacramento Giant Race, 5k

Same race, same sissy’s, different year. I’ve been putting off writing this recap because honestly, it’s going to be basically the same as the ones I’ve written before 2018, 2017, and 2016. Well, besides the inaugural race (2016), they are pretty much the same. This year they updated the course slightly, which I’ll go over later. Other than that, it was business as usual for our hometown race under the Giants race series. Oh, one thing to note is that after three years they finally updated the race title to fit within the Giant race series a little more cohesively. It is no longer called the Riverfront race. I guess…

Race Recap: Girls On The Run Greater Sacramento 5k

Our first 5k together! I was finally able to support Girls On The Run (GOTR) again! I’ve been meaning to forever, but their race dates never seemed to sync up with my schedule. I have done one of their races before, but we didn’t sign up for the actual intent of supporting GOTR. It was when we committed to doing a 5k/month and the GOTR Fall race fit in all of our schedules. I remember it was a cool, foggy morning in East Sac for us! Also, I’ve interacted with the woman who runs the Greater Sacramento chapter and she’s really sweet — even though she didn’t hire me for…

Race Recap: The Giant Race 10k

My team > Your team Via Just sayin’! It’s only the sixth annual SF Giant Race. It seems like it’s been around longer than that, but I guess my time perception is always off. I think it is amazing that the SF Giants put together three different fun runs for their organization and farm teams (Scottsdale, San Jose, and SF). That being said, I cannot believe this is my first race recap for this race, even though I’ve been running it for a few years now (missed 2013 & 2014). I’m also wishing and praying that now that the Sacramento Rivercats are their AAA team, maybe they’ll think of hosting…

City Girl Hikes: Mission Peak – Fremont, CA

Oh, that hike with the pole! Yup, Mission Peak! The hike that is known specifically for the photo op at the top. A pole. A dang coveted pole picture as your prize at the end of the hike, well before you have to come back down, of course. It’s officially called the Mission Peak Regional Preserve and is located in Fremont, CA. Prior to my first hike at Mission Peak, it was always on the little list of local (by local, I mean Northern California) hikes to do, which I created and stored in my head. I’ve always seen pics of people on top of the pole, with a gorgeous…

    Race Recap – Credit Union Sactown10 – 5 Mile

New distance, new course… Sactown10 Back in December 2014, post CIM race, the Sacramento Running Association (SRA) offered a discounted rate of $26.20 for their fifth annual Sactown 10 Miler. You see what they did there 😉  So, being overzealous and somewhat eagerly training for Napa, I signed both J and myself up for the race. However, at that time I did not take into consideration that we’d be in the middle of both of our soccer seasons. Come to find out, on Thursday (before our Sunday race) I realized the time conflict. If we were to do the 10-mile race we’d be late to J’s game and I would…

    Rose & Thorn [45]

Happy Monday. – No one ever Rose: Celebrating two birthdays and a fun little 5 miler race! Thorn: Sore. Sore. Sore! As always, a weekend that flew by with tons of fun in between. In the event of keeping it short, here goes an attempt. Friday I’m not used to Friday night plans, so when Tanna invited us to her birthday I was happy to oblige. We all met up at Strings Italian Kitchen, in my old stomping grounds, for dinner. They all were going to go skating afterwards, but we had a long weekend ahead of us and decided to skip that part of the evening. I hadn’t eaten…

    Race Recap: Shamrock'N Half Marathon

Seven years later I’m still running this race… I’m not sure what else to say about this race. But I do know that every race is different, so I can recap from this particular race day perspective. In addition, they slightly changed up the course, AGAIN this year! If you feel so inclined, you can see what went down the last two times I ran this race:  2014 2013 This is truly one of Sacramento’s largest races. The biggest exception is the California International Marathon (CIM), but we won’t count that in this statement. There are plenty of half marathons in the surrounding areas, but not too many that are…

    Rose & Thorn [41]

Just living the life of a faux runner… Rose: Hosting a dinner for two gals who were running their first half marathon! Thorn: Lingering aches and pains and attempting to play soccer after a Halfer! My body is screaming from the inside. My forearms are sore, my left knee has the weirdest pain ever, and my right ankle is somewhat walkable. All those complaints aside, I truly enjoyed my weekend. Friday Who knows what made J and I start wanting to run two days before our Halfer, but we did. We ran a loop we knew that would drop us off right in front of Fleet Feet for our packet…

Thinking Out Loud – Without Much Thought

Just not feelin’ it today… Amanda at .RUNNING WITH SPOONS. I say that now, but then the post will end up going on for ever…and ever… Pizza // Do you ever have such an intense craving for food, but don’t give in for days. Then finally, the weather gets gloomy and pizza and cuddling just sound perfect? Yeah, that happened. I have been craving pizza for damn near a week now and we finally caved and got it last night, even though we had planned to make breakfast burritos. We did, we just made them for this AM (which were freakin’ amazing, by the way!). J’s friends stopped by, before…

Thinking (Out Loud) About Another Year!

As of 1:59AM this morning I am 32 years old! Age has never been an issue for me. I love getting older and I am not one to ever cringe as another candle is added to my cake. I love the life experiences I get to add to my memory bank, year after year. Some years are better than others, but each year I walk away a different woman, ready to take on the next!  I don’t like to put expectations on a certain age, then I won’t end up disappointed if I don’t meet what I was hoping for. So when 31 brought me J and his little, shining…
