Race Recap: LSNC Valentine Run 2018

First race R U N of 2018! When you wait for some annoying human to decide if your plans will fall into (their) place or not, sometimes you just have to sign up for a race with one of your fave gal pal’s and her cute baby. If you can’t communicate timely, then that’s your bad! And because this is MY blog, I can vent about it here for a second. I was invited to a GS event 2 days after the due date for purchasing tickets, then the invitee told the group organizer she blamed it all on ‘poor communication!’ Seriously? I guess owning up to your own mischievous…

    Musings: Solo Movie GO-er

Try something new they said… When was the last time you did something new? Although it isn’t something to write home about AND plenty of people do it on the reg, my ‘something new’ has always been intimidating to me. Why? I have no clue! Going to the movies always felt like a partner or group activity. I was always intimidated to go by myself. I honestly have no idea why, insert shrink diagnosis. I can easily go have dinner by myself, even sit at a table solo, bar preferred though. I am generally not bothered by being out and about by myself. Maybe I like to have someone with me…

    Musings: FALLing into Gratitude

Fall brings one of my favorite holidays. Door Mat // Hobby LobbyShoes & Dress // Old Navy Thanksgiving, of course.  But more than taking in all the beautiful fall colors lining the streets of Sacramento, are the small acts of generosity that recently reminded me to be grateful and thankful. So, very appropriate for this time of year. To think that a child could not try a sport or activity is foreign to me. My naivety comes from the privilege and hard work of my parents, whom never let this be a barrier for myself or Lil. It went unnoticed at the time, but my parents worked so hard to…

    Musings: Week Day Pampering

Along with cinnamon rolls as appetizers, I’m petitioning for week day pampering! via Pinterest Week days are not just for work, dinner, working out, and carting kids to soccer practice. Seriously, pampering ourselves on a week day should be something we all do, men and women. I have a feeling most of us wait until the weekend to try and fit it into our schedule on top of everything else, but scheduling some personal pampering time is a must. I think at times we try not to be selfish and do this, especially if we have families. However, ‘self-care is a divine responsibility!’ And don’t confuse taking time for the…

Musings: Wide Open Walls 2017 – Sacramento, CA

Sophomore year for Sactown! Last year Krystle and I biked around and checked out the Sacramento Mural Festival that popped up. This year they vamped it up, renamed it, and marketed it like Sacramento knows how to do! Wide Open Walls 2017! About the event, straight from the website: “The Wide Open Walls mural festival is taking place from August 10th through the 20th, 2017. It will bring over 40 artists – local, national and international – to the Sacramento area. This year’s event adds to the region’s already venerable history of mural painting – which has produced over 600 murals over the last 40 years.”   Jamee, whom you…

Musings: Swooning over the CA State Fair

Another year, another CA State Fair!   Just living my best life possible, one fried thing at a time! I can’t really say much that I haven’t already said over the last few years: 2016, 2015, 2014, and another 2014. But what I can do, is share my mostly food adventures from my two visits from this year! I really love their hashtag this year, #LiveInTheMoment! Don’t we all need to do that. It really should be something we strive for, especially since all of our gadgets (re: screen time) are so prevalent these days! On our first visit, we went on a weekday afternoon with L, J’s Mom, his aunt, J, and myself. The…

    Happy #GlobalRunningDay 2017

I thought it was National Running Day!…but, after looking at the blog the 2016 post celebrated the same holiday — #GlobalRunningDay. Coincidence or not, maybe creature of habit, but I retired a pair of Kinvara’s on this day last year and used new ones to celebrate it this year! I think I’m making my running comeback… The hardest part is realizing that you are starting the process over. When I started to despise the runs, it was because I was running a lot of miles and lost the joy of it. I was in good (my standards) running shape. I am no longer anywhere near that shape at the moment.…

Race Recap: Girls On The Run Greater Sacramento 5k

Our first 5k together! I was finally able to support Girls On The Run (GOTR) again! I’ve been meaning to forever, but their race dates never seemed to sync up with my schedule. I have done one of their races before, but we didn’t sign up for the actual intent of supporting GOTR. It was when we committed to doing a 5k/month and the GOTR Fall race fit in all of our schedules. I remember it was a cool, foggy morning in East Sac for us! Also, I’ve interacted with the woman who runs the Greater Sacramento chapter and she’s really sweet — even though she didn’t hire me for…

    New-ish Sactown Eats

Sacramento stays poppin’! Said with mostly sarcasm. But seriously, Sacramento is always growing and evolving, but really their restaurant (and coffee) culture is what I’m speaking too. New places are always opening up, replacing other places…or sadly being closed.  I thought it would be fun to share some new places and stuff (around-ish the Grid) that I’ve tired, which are in essence of the word, “New” and some “New to Me” things I’ve tried recently — from places that have been here but apparently I didn’t give the time or day too (poor form on my part, obviously). Amaro Bistro // After a long, yet confusing meeting with the Fem…

Musings: Getting Comfortable Being Uncomfortable @ The Blog Bloc Launch Party

Communities are how we explain things to the growing gal in our home. We are involved in and part of different communities in our lives. Our home is a community. School is a community. Grouping parts of our daily lives as communities and our respective responsibilities in communities is something we stress in our household. In hopes to raise a kind and responsible human. She’s taken to this idea quite well, but I realized it is applicable for J and I as well. Although I tend to shy away from saying I’m part of the blogger/creative community in Sacramento, I am. I shouldn’t shy away from this, but I tend…
