    Musings: I’m in a Relationship

As the sun was setting, gazing at the most beautiful views of a cotton candy colored sky, I realized something. Something so profound, everything made so much sense at that moment. The clarity was almost too much for me to wrap my brain around. But with each stride, I fell into a clearness that once seemed so unreachable and far away. Finally, my first run of the year was simply, yet lucidly unraveling the jumbled thoughts and ideas I’ve had about running for a long time. Lately, running and I have had an extremely volatile relationship. To be fair, it has been volatile since I ran the Napa marathon in…

    Musings: #GaneebanTris – Week 3

Still humbled, staying humble… …and halfway through. I better stop slacking, cause week 4 is right upon me and I haven’t even gotten through week 3 on the blog. My training hasn’t really progressed in any particular way. I still hit Midtown as much as I can per week, sprinkling soccer in here and there. My normal Saturday conditioner at Midtown didn’t happen, so I did a ‘brick’ style workout at Cal Fit. I’ve heard of brick workouts, but here is the definition: A brick workout refers to the stacking of two disciplines during the same workout, one after the other with minimal to no interruption in between.  Source I…

    Musings: #GaneebanTris

After years of professing my desire to do a triathlon… I’ve finally signed up for a training program. No actual race, but I’ve officially started training. My Midtown friend Sarah and I have spoken about this before and she happened to mention she recently received an email from a training program. She forwarded it to me, I read it and decided I’d try it. It fit my budget and the coach seemed very credible. I also ran the coach’s name by my friend Haley and she said she just met him at an event and that he had a great reputation in town. Also knowing that he is associated with…

    Ganeeban Runs Shamrock'n – Week 8

When you forget (re: choose) to run… So I had every intention of being a good runner this week and to finish out this training session strong. But the weather had other plans and decided to be a jerk. And by jerk I mean really, really rainy! Like the damn had to be released for the first time in years, due to all the rain we’ve had lately. I’ve even concluded that I may not race if it rains that hard on race day. I know, I’m being a baby. But I have no intention of getting sick before our trip at the end of the month. I even contemplated running 13.1…

    Ganeeban Runs Shamrock'n – Week 7

I see the finish line… …well, since our training program is going down in miles, I do! The one pain in my ass (figurative, not literal) is that this training session always runs through my birthday (and Lent). So, some years I sacrifice training to party my little birthday heart out and some years I take it easy to stay consistent with my training. I’ve done both spectrum, but I’m not sure if my race time and those decisions correlate. The worst or good part, depending on how you look at it, is that my birthday celebration is usually the weekend before the race (at times two) when we start…

    Ganeeban Runs Shamrock'n – Week 6

Is it race day yet? I just want to get it over with! HAHA, I still have four weeks, but I just want to get the damn run over with. Seriously, I let training get into my head way too much. I dread the training runs, which leads me to be anxious about what day it is and what miles I run. Serious case of first world probs over here. I’m ready to get the 13.1 miles out of the way! Monday Schedule: Cross Train or 3 Miles Easy Monday Actual: Indoor Soccer in the PM Tuesday Schedule: Fleet Feet Fun Run or 30-45 Mins Easy Tuesday Actual: Nada Wednesday Schedule: 5 Mi Easy Wednesday Actual: 5.02 Mi…

    Ganeeban Runs Shamrock'n – Week 5

Lean in…as a friend said! After last week, Katie gave me advice that was awesome. She told me to just ‘lean in’ to life, to running, to everything. Take it as it comes and don’t be hard on yourself. I like that advice and it’s what I plan to do. I thought I was doing that, but I think last weeks post may have seemed like I was complaining or berating myself, which I didn’t mean too. Monday Schedule: Cross Train or 3 Miles Easy Monday Actual: 3.48 Mi Easy, Indoor Soccer canceled at the last minute 🙁 Tuesday Schedule: Fleet Feet Fun Run or 30-45 Mins Easy Tuesday Actual: Nada…

    Ganeeban Runs Shamrock'n – Week 1

So maybe we should hit the re-start button! Sometimes the importance of life just gets in the damn way. Sometimes running just isn’t a priority for the week.  In case you forgot what I signed myself up for, read here. This last week, running was the farthest thing from my mind. On top of traveling for work, I was dealing with personal stuff that consumed most of my thoughts and time. That being said, here’s how I DID NOT train during week 1! Monday Schedule: Cross Train or 3 Miles Easy Monday Actual: Midtown in the AM and Indoor Soccer in PM Tuesday Schedule: Fleet Feet Fun Run or 30-45 Mins…

    Ganeeban Runs…AGAIN!

Say whaaaat? Yup, you read that correctly. Sunday is the day. Sunday is when I officially start training for the upcoming Blue Diamond Shamrock’n Half Marathon, which goes down on March 13th, 2016. This race is memorable for me for a few reasons. It was my first half marathon in 2008. It was my first half marathon with J in 2014. It was my Mom’s first ever half marathon in 2014, which was something I didn’t think I’d ever see her complete. The course is right in my backyard. AND the sponsor just happens to be my employer! 2015 Recap 2014 Recap 2013 Recap  Sometimes you get work perks and…

Thinking Out Loud – A Not So Love Letter

Dear Napa Marathon, I had the grandest idea of falling in love with you. From the moment I went online to register with giddy and happy anticipation. Anticipation that stemmed from the notion that we must try things more than once, to see if we genuinely like or dislike it. I happily paid the exorbitant registration fee, anything more than $50 makes me cringe. The idea that I might be able to keep up with Steph Z. was another alluring factor. And it goes without saying, the fact that you have placed yourself in the luscious rolling hills of the land of the fruit that produces my happy juice, completely…
